1 CLIMATE ACTION

Climate change is a global issue severely impacting Africa, leading to increased child brides, school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, and poverty among marginalized groups, especially women and girls in rural areas.

At Harriet Ministries Uganda, we are combating climate change through tree planting campaigns, smart agriculture practices, and renewable energy initiatives.

Tree planting Campaign

We are currently working on a tree planting project to increase tree cover in Central Uganda, aiming to grow over 2,000,000 trees. So far, we have successfully planted 100,000 trees in Ssekanyonyi Sub County, Mityana District.

Our project engages women and children as leaders in the fight against climate change. We visit communities and schools, involving children especially girls impacted by droughts and floods in tree planting activities within their homes and schools. These children are responsible for nurturing the trees, and we support their education by providing scholastic materials and covering tuition fees. This approach not only advances our mission of mitigating climate change but also fosters the promotion of girls’ education.

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our efforts and involve more children and women in our tree planting campaigns across Uganda, contributing meaningfully to resolving the global climate crisis.

3.GIRL CHILD EDUCATION;

Due to high poverty rates, girls are often expected to work and are forced into child marriages to increase their family’s income.

At Harriet Ministries, we believe Education opens doors and opportunities for girls to thrive and be able to make informed decisions for their lives.

Our Commitments:

  1. We offer scholarships covering tuition fees, school supplies, and other educational expenses.

  2. Mentorship Programs for adolescent girls.

  3. We address cultural norms, stereotypes, and barriers preventing girls from attending school through community awareness and campaigns

  4. Educating parents and communities on the importance of girls' education to increase enrolment.

  5. Creating safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments with separate sanitation facilities, menstrual hygiene resources, and gender-sensitive curriculums.

  6. Equipping girls with essential skills like leadership, communication, and financial literacy to enhance their confidence.

  7. Working at local, national, and international levels to eliminate gender disparities in education.

  8. Collaborating with educational institutions to develop initiatives targeting girls' educational needs, including STEM education.

At only USD 45 a term, you can help us make education come true for the most vulnerable especially girls.

2 WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE (WASH)

In many rural areas, the lack of access to clean water forces residents to rely on unsafe sources like ponds and wells, shared with animals, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.

At Harriet Ministries Uganda, we are dedicated to addressing this issue by constructing boreholes, providing sustainable and safe water sources for communities.

For approximately USD 1,000 per borehole, you can help us bring clean water to those in need, improving their health and quality of life.

Together, we can make a lasting impact

4.Menstrual Health & Hygiene Management

We cannot achieve gender equality when millions of girls and women are held back by period poverty and stigma. In Mityana District, many girls resort to using makeshift sanitary materials like polythene bags filled with soil or old mattresses due to financial constraints, posing health risks and exposing them to infections.

Our research shows that over 65% of girls in rural areas cannot afford sanitary pads, which typically cost around USD 1.5.

In response, we train girls in schools and communities on how to make reusable pads and maintain proper hygiene during menstruation we conduct community awareness and education campaigns to challenge taboos and shame surrounding menstruation.

With only USD 10 you can support our cause.

6.ENDING HUNGER

Imagine going five days without lunch and skipping breakfast. For millions of schoolchildren in Uganda, this is a harsh reality. One in five children faces uncertainty about their next meal, especially when school meals are unavailable. Over 60% of Uganda’s hungriest people are women and girls, often due to inequality, early marriage, young motherhood, cultural barriers, and lack of education, leading to malnutrition and health problems.

At Harriet Ministries Uganda, we are committed to helping children access food, water, and education. We strive to restore health and dignity to those affected by food insecurity and malnutrition.

For only USD 2, you can feed a child for a day. Together, we can bring food, essentials, and hope to families in need.

5.WOMEN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

A study by the Economic Policy Research Centre notes that In Uganda, women and girls spend around twenty hours per week on unpaid care work, twice as much as men and boys, which entrenches social gender norms and limits their employment opportunities.

At Harriet Ministries Uganda, we believe that women's economic empowerment is crucial for achieving gender equality, ending poverty, and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Our Initiatives:

We offer programs in entrepreneurship, vocational skills, financial literacy, and leadership development, equipping women with the skills to access employment or start their own businesses, such as poultry, piggery, agroforestry, and briquette making.

We collaborate with local and religious leaders to form savings and loans groups among women, particularly in rural areas, providing financial support and a platform for sharing knowledge and resources.
